These are just three of the plethora of postings on Twitter touting ways to get more followers. I’m not real sure just why I’d want 300-400 new followers a day. I’ve got enough of a challenge following the nearly 1800 people I currently follow. I know that I’m not up to date with each and every one of them.
Followers for the sake of followers doesn’t make any sense to me.

SPAM seems to be what I call it. Apparently they think more followers == better broadcast channel == more effective advertising. Unfortunately it may be true. If you send out enough messages eventually you get a sucker. Although in this case I’m just reporting their spam & blocking them.
